Milez Estelle is a poet, experimental fiber and graphic artist and pseudo-puppeteer currently living near Sioux City, IA. They grew up the youngest of 14 siblings in the woods and on the lakes of northern Minnesota, where they began their creative practice at an early age. They wrote poetry, played piano, and learned how to draw and do a variety of fiber crafts all before graduating high school at 15. They studied music theory and composition at the University of Minnesota Duluth, worked the occasional odd job, and gained valuable experience in craftsmanship while sewing backpacks for a local retailer. Since relocating to Iowa in 2016, and deciding to pursue an art career full-time, they have published zines and art books, run a sticker club, painted a mural, and worked on freelance graphic design projects. They have had work commissioned for private collections across the US and have participated in group exhibitions around the country. They currently have a combination studio/laboratory practice focused on play and exploration of inter/anti-disciplinary techniques that include papermaking, sculpture and poetic computation. They plan to spend the near future running a tiny print shop, making designer toys from recycled materials, and continuing their entrepreneurial education.
